Memories from MOTAT

This is what MOTAT looked like to Room1.

Strike Percussion

STRIKE PERCUSSION
Today at 9; 30 Strike Percussion came to Dairy Flat School! When I first heard that strike percussion were coming to school I got really excited.

When we first walked in Strike percussion introduced them selves to us. The leader Tom first said to us "hi I’m Tom and this is my band Strike Percussion". He also said "on my right hand side is Flipper. Let me explain why his name is Flipper". Just then Flipper did a full back-flip right in front of us.  It was amazing and everyone was stunned. When everyone snapped out of it Tom introduced the Hitman, the best drummer in the world. Once everyone was introduced they did their first song called Territory.

After Territory,  Tom called up Mrs Forlong and Mrs Thomson who had a battle of the drums. Mrs Thomson’s numbers were 2 and 4 and Mrs Forlong’s numbers were 1,2,3 and 4. They battled the drums to death until they were so exhausted they collapsed. Tom said "you teachers are even stevens in drumming".
Next was the log drum’s from South Africa.  Before they started that part of the show they picked 6 people to play the log drum’s.  The beat was ba ba ba ba bababababa. After that it was a massive bow and it was all over.  Personally, I thought it was the best show ever in my life!!!!!

There were like 50  kids with lambs at the lamb rings . In senior a, b and c. They were each put into different year groups in the senior classes. There were places 1st , 2nd , 3rd, 4th and 5th and there was leading, calling and rearing categories.

There was lots of entertainment and food at Ag day. There was the bungee jumping thing, the coconut throw and more. There was delicious donuts and yummy cakes and more.
After all the fun was over it was time for prize giving. When all the kids were in the hall they handed out the trophies . There were a lot of shiny gold trophies ,a medal and a certificate were with it to!
After the prize giving was over they did the raffle. Erin Travers won the raffle it was filled with goodies. The food looked so yummy it looked good for eating right away

All the money raised from Ag day is going to be used by D.F.S for something they need and Drew Travers said he had the best time ever!

Animals spend a day at school!!

The  Amazing Ag Day

On Saturday 18th October Dairy Flat School had Ag day which was annoying for some people because they had to come to school on a SATURDAY!

The kids at Dairy Flat School had to raise an animal like a goat, a calf or a lamb. They have to walk it around some posts and stop at the stop sign for ten seconds then go anticlockwise around the next post. After this the kids have to call their animal. Nearly all of the animals just stayed in the same place or they jumped over the fences and ran away!

After the kids walked and called their animals they had the rest of the day to have fun and buy yummy food. The donuts were awesome.  The cinnamon and sugar made your mouth water.  The kids mainly used their money for junk food like lolly pops and donuts. By the end of the day all of the kids looked sick.

The parade was amazing. Heaps and heaps of kids dressed up themselves and their animal and marched around the field. If they looked good enough they would win a prize, one of them won a bouncy ball! The prizes were endless. There were awesome prizes too, like earphones.

Last of all a band performed ‘We Will Rock wicked'. At the end of the day Tom Peppers said he felt amazing because he had had a very fun day!

Ag day at Dairy Flat School

On Saturday 18th October D.F.S held a festival called Ag day. Kids had to bring animals or a scarecrow. But it was on a SATURDAY at school!

The children had to bring a lamb, chicken or a calf and had to call them, lead them and dress them up like a pirate. There was 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. If you got a place you would get a ribbon with 1st,2nd and 3rd on it.

If they didn’t have an animal they could bring in a paver, scarecrow or Lego construction. They also had 1st, 2nd and 3rd but instead of getting a ribbon you got a certificate.

While that was going on the D.F.S instrument players played some boss beats.  Jacob.L thinks it was hard but fun.   Tom P., a D.F.S student can’t wait until next year because he had so much fun.

Pumpkin Chocolate Brownies

On the last day of Term 3 we decided to do some baking, so we made chocolate brownies with a twist! By adding pumpkin to the brownie mix they were yummy and full of veges. Some of the children were not sure that adding veges was a good idea, but they ate them anyway.

Room 1 has worked long and hard to complete these pieces of art for their calendars and Ag day.
They have been photographed as they are on the wall, ready to be judged on Ag day.
They have had to be modified slightly to fit the calendar size required.  Samples of each of these are available in a clear-light file in the classroom on the notices table.
Enjoy me hearties as you peruse the art of pirate collage ships!

Winter Sports Prize-giving

Today we had our winter sports prize giving.  It is always hard to choose the most improved and valuable players from a group of sports people who have trained and played together as a team all season.  In Room 1 this year we had 6 sports people who where successful recipients of these awards.
Congratulations!!

Mudslide Madness!

IMG_0672.JPGJacobs mudslide day!!! Sploosh! Went the kids going down the slide. Dairy flat school made a mudslide because there was a massive mud patch at the bottom of a hill.
Everybody had a go except people who forgot their spare clothes! The slide was thought to be boring but when we had a go it was amazing we got so muddy we had to keep going. We went on our knees, our stomach and our bums! It was so funny we almost fell over laughing at each other. In the end we had to get hosed down and then had to change while we were wet and muddy. We all told Josh to wash his face but he didn’t know what we were talking about so we laughed at him! It was as funny as a face planting in mud! I was a brown monkey by the end of the day! It was a very, very funny day.

THE END!!!

MUDSLIDE!!!IMG_0669.JPG
On the 19th August Dairy Flat School had a mudslide. The juniors were as lucky as a pot of gold. They got to go first. Now it was our turn. I slid down as fast as I could, vroommm! I went down. I was covered in mud. At the bottom it was full of mud. Almost everyone was at the bottom playing in the mud. hope it happens again.

Mudslide Madness
On Tuesday Mr Van Dam , Mr Hardy and Mrs Marshall set up a tarpaulin down a hill near the playground. It was for the mudslide at lunchtime.First it was the juniors turn before lunch time then it was the seniors turn on the mudslide after lunch. At lunch we saw lots of juniors having loads of fun on the mudslide. After we were let out of the shade area I got changed into my spare cloths for the mudslide.I was scared yet excited at the same time When I slowly slipped up the boggy hill to the face of the mudslide. When I went down the mudslide I accidentally tumbled down the hill and face-planted into the icky mud. When I pulled my face out of the mud my face was covered in mud in every little slither of skin. When I was walking up the hill my feet felt like I was walking on gum.I went down a second an third time and each time I got more filthy. Finally when Mrs Marshall said juniors need to get of the mudslide I said WoooHooo THE END

Saturday 16 August 2014

Last week we had three visitors from Jiangbei Central Primary School join our class for the week. They took part in our usual class programe and we enjoyed learning a little bit about the Chinese calendar, doing some flax weaving and sharing some typical New Zealand food.

We have been working on descriptive writing as part of our narrative study.  We have practiced describing a pirate and then the setting in which our pirate may be found. We have tried to use our senses and powerful words to create a picture in our readers minds.  I hope you enjoy them!

The Pirate's Bar

Larry was in a bar.  It stunk like beer and rum.  It was disgusting!  There was broken glass everywhere.  Trust me, it was quite bad but the good thing was when I walked outside I could hear the whispering of the sea side.

The Ocean

Splash!  Another current comes over Alice and nearly drowns her.  As you can guess, Alice's clothes are soaking wet.  Alice sees a piece of drift wood up ahead.  So as any pirate would do, she grabbed it.  Then she was floating over currents ( instead of down'n under them).  But just as Alice was taking a breath, a massive wave swooped over her.  All she could smell, taste and see was all water and current, but the taste was different because the taste was salt.  Alice could hear waves spalsh'n over her.  Alice was scared.  All she could feel was the ocean brushing against her.  The reason Alice was scared was that her crew and captain had died from this and the exact same way just a few hours earlier...but she was teh only survivor.

The Captain's Sloop

Boom! That's the sound that says that the enemy's ship has exploded from TNT.  Captain Gold-patch uses his smooth sloop 'Revenge' for all his wins.  You can smell fish and turkey from their feasts.  The captain's quarters is made out of gold and his bed is made out of the finest cotton in France.  The ship is covered in sparkly treasure from his enemies.  You can see your reflection in the diamond crows nest.  The crew always slip on the ship because the captain's assistant is constantly cleaning it.

The Island

Crash, went the waves as they hit the waters surface at the beach of a beautiful island.  There is boiling hot sand squishing against my feet.  There is rustling among the palm trees and strong sounds in the jungle.  "So many tropical trees" said Smee.  "Lets go get some fruit".  Hot squishy mud squelching against our boots.  There are rocks everywhere and birds are flying in the sky while creatures are crawling along the jungle floor.  The smell of sea salt blows with the wind as we come to the other side of the jungle....

Captain Blackbeard

The furious captain Blackbeard has a painful scar on his face.  Captain Blackbeard has a curved shiny sword on his left side and two small flintlock pistols on his right side.  He has a long curly black beard and a gold loop ear-ring that he stole from a little girl.  His boots are dusty.  His shirt is ripped and his hat has a revolting cross bones on the front.  Captain Blackbeard has mean brown eyes like the walls  in a dark cave.  Like all pirates he is dark o the outside and inside.  He kidnaps people and demands people to join his crew.  He is a skilled sword fighter.  If you met him you wouldn't want to go and cross swords with him!

Hungry Bins- Our New Worm Farms.

Thanks to the Auckland Council Waste Minimization Fund we have been able to buy two new Hungry Bins.
These have replaced our old inefficient worm farm. The Hungry Bins are portable, cleaner and designed to make collection of the compost and worm wees really easy. Last Friday, Room 1 had some fun putting the bins together. I will let the pictures do the talking!

Mr Hardy gets the nice job of evicting the worms from the old bins into their new home.

Zach and Tiffany enjoy the Hungry Bin boxes!
